Students will also learn unconventional uses of sewing for use in different art forms. No knowledge of sewing is required. Some fabric will be provided for demonstration. The instructor will select a pattern and you will be able to choose from a few options of fabric available but you will be responsible for fabric and additional items if you’d like to add flare! We will be using the instructor’s sewing machines.

Each student will participate in every stage of the papermaking process as we discuss variations on professional and DIY studio set ups, preparing pulp, mixing additives, sheet forming, pressing, and drying. We will create a hardbound book with the handmade paper we create. Students will then learn the craft of paper weaving techniques and then create sculptural forms with balsa wood and handmade paper.

Make your own mark! Using only the unique chemistry (handled by instructor in demonstration) and the sun, young artists will capture works of art from nature and objects they adore. This historical photographic process dates back to the 1800s and creates one of a kind photograms. Much like the very first photobook published by artist Anna Atkins, we will make a small book of our images for keeping in the library. The class will end with a small presentation of their works on the last day.
